"The Nets still aren't good enough to get out of the East."
— @getnickwright on why the Nets defense is going to hurt them in the playoffs:
The Nets are going to be a bottom 10 defensive team, at best. You cannot win the title that way.
"KD understood in the last decade if you want to beat LeBron you have to have at minimum 3 HOF'ers. ... The Nets' bet is that they can be the worst defensive team to ever win the title. It's far from a sure thing." — @getnickwright
Also, the great star migration out East, the moment LeBron goes out West, continues!
.@getnickwright breaks down the winners losers from the 4-team blockbuster deal that sent James Harden to the Nets.
"The Nets said, 'What we currently have is not going to be good enough. We have to go all in on having the only Big 3 in the league [if Kyrie returns].'"
KD saw LeBron beat GSW in ‘16 & knew he didn’t have enough to come at the King, so he went there.
KD saw LeBron coast to a title last year, and Harden experience first hand. They smartly realized their only hope is to get together.
Still won’t be enough, though.
You’ve gotta like the move for the Nets.
In the last decade, the only way to beat LeBron is to have at least 3 HOFers, and even then it’s not a sure thing (‘13 OKC, ‘14 SAS & ‘16 GSW).
But without at least 3, you’re drawing dead. So at least BK has a seat at the table now.
"This narrative that the Chiefs have had close calls, they're lies."
— @getnickwright sets the record straight for those doubting the Chiefs:
Fact Check: The Chiefs actually didn’t “almost lose” a bunch of times. And against playoff teams, they were in full control for the entire games.
Question for Joe Tsai is is he willing to make a similar bet Prokhorov made shortly after he bought the team: Mortgaging all future assets & future abilities to improve the team for a chance to win the title right now, especially when the Harden-Kyrie fit is questionable at best.
And Tsai was in fact willing to make the same bet Prokhorov made. We will see if it works!
If Houston demanded Kyrie, they could have him, but the belief is Houston isn’t interested in Kyrie. BK trying to get a 3rd team involved to potentially enhance Houston’s return. Would have a Big 3 of KD, Harden & Kyrie but very little else, no depth & no future picks.
BK did get that extra team involved, getting Indy to include Oladipo to sweeten the pot.
News: There has been legitimate movement on the Harden front.
Brooklyn is prepared to offer *anyone* that Houston wants aside from Durant for Harden, as well as 3 1sts & swaps.
BK willing to make the same bet it once made on KG & Pierce, but on Harden.
.@getnickwright joins us now
"If Kyrie isn't going to retire, I have this wild, crazy 2021 opinion: Show up to work. ... Kevin Durant could've went anywhere & teamed up w/ anybody. He picked Kyrie, & 2 weeks into the partnership he's taking a leave of absence?" — @getnickwright
I once no showed-no called to a part time job at Footaction. They fired me the next day. Not sure exactly why less is expected from a superstar professional athlete.
